Arrange issues

Hi,

I'm running 2012 Mac Pro 12 core with OS X El Capitan 10.11.5. I want to arrange my folders by KIND. I see on screen shots that other people have the option to sort by KIND in multiple places where I don't get it. What is the deal and how do I rectifiy this? It's driving me crazy.

So where it isn't an option:

1) on the toolbar at the top of a finder window if I click on the arrange I get ONLY the following choices: Name, Application Category, Date Last Open, Date Added, Size and Tags.

2) if i right click in between the folders/icons, arrange by has the same options as above in #1

3) if i go into view options, I *CAN* select sort by KIND, but I cannot set it as the default- set as default is greyed out.

Really appreciate the time and consideration it takes to help me out!

In a Finder window, in List view, click on any column header. You'll see a list of columns you can choose. One of them is Kind. Sel ct it, then you can drag it to any column location you want. Kicking on that column header will sort window contents by Kind. Clicking again will cycle between ascending and descending orders.

I see that you are trying to arrange the icons in Applications folder. If you try it, for example in Documents, you have the option of arranging by Kind. But if you try it in Applications, there is no option to sort in Kind. I've tried it myself and the result is the same.

Try sorting in some other folder than Applications and see what happens.

Cheers.

Hi all,

Sorry for my late response, I'm finishing an Audio Engineering degree and am a little swamped. I have made new users and they all have this same issue- cannot sort applications by KIND as default or in typical places where one should be able to see this arrange. As I have a major final project that I cannot complete at school, I also downgraded my OS X 10.11.5 to 10.11.3 to accommodate Pro Tools better; and even with that I have the same issues.

Thanks for your time and help!
